The Citizens' Academy began to further educate the public about the Sheriff's Office and the different roles each department plays in making the community a safer place. The academy is held each Tuesday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for a duration of 7 weeks. Each week representatives from each of the different divisions speak and answer questions about their particular role within the Sheriff's Office. This unique opportunity is being offered to the public free of charge, but spaces are limited to the first (30) qualified applicants. If you are not selected the first time we will keep your application on file and call you the next time we have an academy.
The first Tuesday is hosted by the Executive Division which includes the Sheriff, the Chief and Captain Gary Billingsley. The other Divisions to be covered over the duration of the academy include: Investigations, Enforcement, Administrative, Corrections and Support Services.
Attendees will get a K 9 demonstration as well as a special tour inside a patrol car & our Special Operations vehicles. At the end of the academy, those interested will get to ride along with a deputy to get insight on the front line of protecting the streets of Rapides Parish. The academy ends with a graduatio and cookout for all attendees.
